UAU was founded by the Government of Uttarakhand through the Uttarakhand Ayurved University Act, 2009, with the aim of promoting effective and systematic instruction, teaching, training, research, and development in Ayurveda and other AYUSH disciplines.
The university encompasses seven faculties, including Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, Siddha, Yoga and Naturopathy, Biomedical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, such as B.A.M.S., B.H.M.S., B.U.M.S., MD/MS (Ayu), and Ph.D. courses.
UAU operates three campuses: the main campus in Dehradun and two campuses in Haridwar—Rishikul and Gurukul. Additionally, it has 16 affiliated colleges, including 13 Ayurveda colleges, two Homeopathic colleges, and one Unani college, expanding its reach in AYUSH education.
