Originally known as the University of Jodhpur, it was formed by integrating four government colleges: MBM Engineering College, Jaswant College, S.M.K. College, and K.N. College for Women . Inaugurated by then-President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on August 24, 1962, the university was envisioned as a center for holistic education and research. Renamed in 1992 to honor Jai Narayan Vyas, a notable freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Rajasthan , JNVU stands as the only residential university in the state, primarily serving the educational needs of western Rajasthan.
