What is the Aditya Birla Scholarship

  • The Aditya Birla Scholarship (also known as Aditya Birla Scholars) is a merit-based scholarship program supporting outstanding students in engineering, management, and law from premier institutions in India. 

  • It is run by Aditya Birla Group in tribute to their late leader Aditya Vikram Birla.

  • The goal is to reward academic excellence, leadership qualities, co-curricular achievements, and also nurture future leaders. 

    Eligibility Criteria

    To apply / be considered for this scholarship, students need to meet certain conditions. Main ones are:

    Stream Institutes Eligible Other Requirements
    Engineering IITs (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati), BITS Pilani campuses  Must be among the top 20 students in entrance exam rank of that institute at admission time. 
    Management IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Shillong), XLRI Jamshedpur  Same selection criteria – top 20 students rank, etc.
    Law Select Law Colleges: National Law School of India University (Bangalore); NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad; WB National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata; Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar; National Law University, Jodhpur; etc. As above with rank in entrance or admission, plus co-curricular/leadership criteria.

Q1: What is the Aditya Birla Scholarship?
A1: It’s a merit-based scholarship offered by the Aditya Birla Group to exceptional students from India’s top institutes in Engineering, Management, and Law, to nurture future leaders and reward excellence.
Q2: Who can apply for the scholarship?
A2: Only first-year students of selected institutes (IITs, IIMs, BITS Pilani, and top NLUs) are eligible. They must be among the top 20 ranked students in their entrance exams or institute’s merit list.
Q3: Which institutes are eligible?
A3: Engineering: IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Madras, Guwahati, Roorkee) & BITS Pilani (all campuses).
- Management: IIMs (A, B, C, L, K, S) & XLRI Jamshedpur.
- Law: NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, NUJS Kolkata, GNLU Gandhinagar, NLU Jodhpur, and similar top NLUs.
Q4: What is the scholarship amount?
A4: Engineering: ₹1,50,000 per annum
- Management: ₹3,00,000 per annum
- Law: ₹1,80,000 per annum (or actual fees, whichever is lower).

Essay Writing Syllabus (Analytical & Verbal Thinking)

This is the core written component — equivalent to the “exam syllabus.”

For Law Students (NLUs):

  • Awareness of contemporary legal issues

  • Analytical reading and comprehension

For Management Students (IIMs, XLRI, etc.):
